Artist Spotlight with Anycia

Written by Erin Moses

Atlanta’s Southside newest rapper, Anycia, is quickly becoming one of the hottest female
rappers out of the South! Born on August 19, 1997, she began rapping professionally in 2022 and gained major attention when a snippet of her song “So What” went viral in 2023. What first caught my attention was her viral track “Back Outside” featuring one of my favorite artists, Latto. I instantly loved the song, and after diving into her discography, I’ve been a faithful listener ever since.

In April 2024, she released her debut studio album Princess Pop That. What gravitates me to her music is the way she blends trap with a girly, fun vibe that makes you want to move. She also has her signature ad-libs, like saying “huh” and “what,” which match her chill, effortless style. That uniqueness gives her a niche sound that helps her stand out in a crowded field.

Recently, she dropped another project titled Grady Baby, a reference to her being born at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta culture, calling yourself a “Grady Baby” is like wearing a badge of authenticity. It proves you’re really from the city, not the suburbs, since Grady is the historic public hospital in downtown ATL where many natives were born. The album features artists like Tink, Monaleo, Quavo, KARRAHBOO, and GloRilla, with production from DJ Drama. It’s a strong body of work that shows her growth as an artist as she continues to reach new goals and heights.
