JVKE - SHINE (Review)

Written by Samuel Kaplan

Last week, we got a truly one-of-a-kind release from JVKE and a group of all-star collaborators. What JVKE has done here pushes the previously established boundaries of what constitutes a remix or use of a sample. For this new record, titled "SHINE," JVKE took his smash single "golden hour" and used it as a sample on a brand new hip hop, drill beat. Joining him on this fresh rendition are power players Ali Gatie, Prinz, JNR CHOI, Lil Man J, Arden Jones, and Micah Palace.

In this modern era of collaboration and cross-promotion, this type of release is a brilliant—and dare I say, revolutionary—way to bring together a diverse collection of artists. The song dropped with a joint Instagram post from all six artists featured on the record, showing a group chat where they reacted to receiving the reworked beat from JVKE.

It’s worth listening to both the chart topping, original version of "golden hour" which currently has over one billion plays on Spotify alone, and then giving this new version a spin. It really showcases the masterful artistry of JVKE as well as the talents of the other artists involved.

You can stream both "golden hour" and "SHINE" below:
