Preston Alexander delivered a killer debut single last week with “Collide,” and fans of acts like Dominic Fike will be absolutely swooning once they get their hands on this. Alexander is from Knoxville, Tennessee, and I’m sure that his geographic perspective will help him pave his own unique path in the alternative rock and borderline bedroom pop infused genre that so many of us have grown to love.
“Collide” was fully self produced and written, and it only gets more addicting with each listen. The topic largely reflects on wanting a relationship to work out, but acknowledging all of the reasons why things most likely aren’t meant to be. All of this is delivered over loose flowing but confident vocals, and almost optimistic sounding drum patterns.
The track feels like an honest depiction of the human condition that many people have gone through, ranging from lost love, all the way to the all too common financial and mental struggles that come with growing up. Considering this is the first release from Alexander and that he has a strong team behind him, I am sure that “Collide” is only a drop in the ocean for what’s to come.
